Jimmy Kimmel, we’re not mad, we’re just disappointed.
Even if you are about as anti-Kim Kardashian West as they come, right now you’d probably agree that it’s not an inappropriate time to make jokes at her expense. She literally just went through a life-changing, horrific event, and no matter how skilled of a comedian you are, it’s pretty hard to spin the ordeal into something funny.
But Kimmel gave it the old college try on Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live — and boy, did he fail.
In his opening monologue, Kimmel went on a lighthearted run directed toward Kardashian West’s Parisian robbers in which he made it pretty obvious that he doesn’t care about the seriousness of what went down in Kardashian West’s hotel room on Sunday night.
“We will tolerate a lot of nonsense, but you do not mess with Kim Kardashian West,” he said. “Whether you like her or not, she’s one of us, and if we find out you harmed even a single extension on her People’s Choice Award-winning head, we will find you and make you so Les Misérables, you’ll wish you’d never been born to a woman who doesn’t shave her armpits.”
Look, we get it. Kimmel’s job is to joke about topical news and pop culture, but this time he just came off a little tone-deaf.
And if you think Kimmel’s monologue about Kardashian West was bad, wait until you get a load of Conan O’Brien’s.
“No one was hurt, but in a mansion in Paris, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint,” O’Brien said in his monologue. “Kim was bound and gagged, then the robbers broke in.”
O’Brien’s sex joke seems particularly inappropriate, considering reports claiming that Kardashian West feared sexual assault during the robbery and begged for her life because of her children.
O’Brien and Kimmel need to take a page out of James Corden‘s book. Corden took to Twitter to defend Kardashian West in the wake of her ordeal — a much classier route compared to the other hosts.
People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she's a mother,a daughter,a wife,a friend.Be nice or shut up

Jamie Lee Curtis was also proud of Corden for taking the high road, and she told him so when she stopped by The Late Late Show on Monday night.
“This very day, something really scary happened to a public person, and you were the first person to stand up and tell the Twitter souls that they should shut the f*** up and leave this poor woman alone and let her recover. And you — you said it! And I am impressed by you, very much,” said Curtis. “This is a mother of two small children! My God, these people just need to have their devices put somewhere.”
“I thought, regardless of whatever you think of someone, it’s someone being held at gunpoint in a room,” Corden replied. “Just don’t say anything. Also, you don’t need to say anything. Just don’t do anything!”
Bravo, James Corden! There’s the proof that you really don’t need to be nasty to be a hilarious comedian.
