In her day, Debbie Reynolds did it all. Subsequently, her day lasted for decades.
The actress, who became a national treasure as the star of one of the most beloved movies of all time and went on to enjoy a nearly 70-year career in film, television and theater, has died. She was 84. Her son, Todd Fisher, confirmed the news to the Associated Press.
No cause was immediately announced. Reynolds had been hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after reportedly suffering a stroke at Todd’s home, barely a day … read more

Carrie Fisher had a sweet dog, Gary, a four year-old French bulldog who was certified as a therapy dog and thus able to go with her everywhere. Gary has so much personality and his tongue sticks out most of the time. Carrie talked about Gary during an interview on NPR’s Fresh Air last month, where she said she “got [Gary] here in New York in the village at a very tragic pet store” and that “everything is sort of wrong with him.” Gary has an Instagram and Twitter account, which broke my … read more

There are so few true icons.
“Iconic” is a word that gets thrown around haphazardly, having become interchangeable with any word that connotes fame and losing its primary definition as something inspiring unflagging, uncritical devotion.
Yet Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia fits the bill.
When every other movie and TV show these days is a spin-off, a reboot, a remake, the mass-entertainment moments that resonate as singular are becoming increasingly rare. Even fewer and more far between are truly memorable … read more

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal romance has the queen’s approval! Well, sort of.
The Royals’ Queen Helena, played by Elizabeth Hurley, certainly approves of Harry’s relationship with the gorgeous Suits star.
“I’ve never met Prince Harry, but I met Meghan at an NBC event. I thought she was enchanting. I thought she was the nicest girl,” Hurley told E! News exclusively this week while promoting the season three premiere of The Royals on Dec. 4. “And personally, I’m rooting for a royal wedding. … read more

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have an long enjoyable joint interview over on Deadline. This is in the Awardsline section, so it must be part of the Emmy push for the X-Files reboot. Apparently the first round of voting closes June 27th, so please if we have any Emmy voters reading consider the new X-Files (and also Master of None and Bates Motel) on your ballots. Ever since I heard David Duchovny promoting his new book on Fresh Air I’ve had a renewed appreciation of just how smart and insightful … read more

Graham Nash — of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — has a story about his friend, Neil Young, that has been almost too perfect to believe for nearly three decades.
As the myth goes, Nash was at Young’s ranch just south of San Francisco when Young asked him if he wanted to hear something. (That something would become Young’s now famous 1972 “Harvest” album, which features the track “Heart of Gold.”) Nash, of course, said yes and suggested going into Young’s studio. That wasn’t Young’s plan.

Like so many of us, Mariah Carey regrets her ’90s style.
In a recent interview with PrideSource, the elusive chanteuse was asked what “1990 Mariah would think of 2016 Mariah” today. According to the singer, her younger self would certainly care more about looks.
“I was such a kid, just in over my head, but I knew that I was gonna do this for my life and so I probably would’ve been like, ‘Who does your hair and makeup?’” Carey said. “‘Cause they had me with some people who didn’t … read more

When students at Alabama’s Crestline Elementary School see their beloved head custodian, Jerome Lewis, cleaning a classroom or strolling a hallway,”it’s like a celebrity sighting,” says a teacher at the school. “They have to stop, they have to give him a hug.” This wisp of a man who exudes a quiet joy knows every student’s name, and always has the time to ask how he or she is doing. And there’s always a high-five with that hug. “A breath of fresh air, even when the day stinks,” says one student … read more

David Duchovny was on Fresh Air with Dave Davies on NPR yesterday promoting his new somewhat baseball-themed novel, Bucky F*cking Dent. I knew Duchovny was an author and that he’s published another book, but I didn’t realize that he actually graduated from Princeton and has a masters in English literature from Yale. Judging from the excerpts they read on NPR, it shows. Duchovny explained on NPR that his mom, a Scottish immigrant, instilled in him a love of books and education. Plus his parents … read more

He won’t always be her baby — but he’s OK with that. Nick Cannon showed his support — and apparent meme-savviness — in a lighthearted Instagram post congratulating his soon-to-be ex-wife Mariah Carey on her new engagement to casino mogul James Packer. The Nickelodeon exec shared a fan-posted “Real Husbands of Hollywood” screenshot Saturday morning of comic Kevin Hart tending to Cannon laid up in a hospital bed, captioned, “It’s just a ring Nick…” “Ha! This made me laugh out loud … read more

It all comes down to timing and a slight case of stage fright. When it was announced that the 90’s hit show Full House was making a comeback with the aptly titled Netflix series Fuller House, fans of the show immediately wondered who from the original cast would return. Luckily, almost the entire cast signed on to appear on the show, minus two very important people. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen won’t reprise their role as youngest sister Michelle Tanner, but it’s not for the reasons you think.

New year, same topic! Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach defended Steve Harvey following his epic flub at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant last month, when he misnamed the winner as Miss Colombia. Laughing about the incident on Monday, Wurtzbach, 26, told Lara Spencer that she reached out to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez following the awkward moment. “Yes, I did … read more

Credit: FameFlynet, Inc. As it turns out, Michelle Tanner is working on her fashion brand in New York, and thus too busy to appear on Fuller House.
Sound familiar?
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will not be reprising their role as the youngest Tanner sibling on Netflix’s Full House reboot, as previously reported. According to Us Weekly, the writers will allude to the twins’ real-life job in New York as fashion designers for their lines The Row and Elizabeth and James.
So Michelle won’t be appearing … read more

Ten years ago this week, the Ang Lee film Brokeback Mountain first opened in theaters. Ask anyone today about it, and they can probably tell you two things about it: It’s about gay cowboys and it featured one of Heath Ledger’s most celebrated performances. Indeed, Brokeback Mountain remains a highlight of Heath Ledger’s all-too-brief career. Ledger, who starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, died of an accidental drug overdose in 2008 and only appeared in four more movies, including I’m Not There, and … read more
