Another power couple has bitten the dust in 2016.
The duo took to Jackson’s social media account to share a message on their split as they posted:
— Phil Jackson (@PhilJackson11) December 28, 2016
In case you’re having trouble reading the fine print, the note said:
“With mutual love and respect, we have decided to end our engagement. With the nature of our professional obligations and the geographic distance between us, sustaining the relationship has been difficult. We have shared many wonderful moments through the years and we expect to remain supportive of each other in the future.”
So sad. The 55-year-old later shared her own words on the break-up as she posted:
The love of my life is the Los Angeles Lakers. I love Phil & will always. It's not fair to him or Lakers to not have my undivided attention
— Jeanie Buss (@JeanieBuss) December 28, 2016
While we’re heartbroken to see this power house item over for good, we don’t blame Jeanie for dedicating her attention to her professional life rather than her romantic one. As you may recall, Buss became the president and co-owner of the Los Angeles Lakers after her father Jerry died in 2013.
As for Jackson, he currently serves as the President of Basketball Operations for the New York Knicks. Though the basketball legend DOES have a long history with the Lakes as he won five championships as their head coach between 2000-2010. On top of all of this, he won six championships while coaching the Chicago Bulls and snagged two more while playing for the Knicks. So it’s not hard to believe that Jackson holds the NBA record for most combined championships as a player and head coach.
Both Jeanie and Phil’s resumes made their relationship so iconic. The former flames first started dating 1999, but didn’t get engaged until January 2013.
We guess all good things must eventually come to an end…
