Last night (Dec. 19, 2016), CBS aired First Lady Michelle Obama’s farewell interview with Oprah Winfrey and just as she’s on her way out, we got to know a little more about the 44th First Lady of the United States.

During their chat, Obama opened up about her true feelings about President-elect Donald Trump. The First Lady admitted while she is committed to making sure the Presidential transition goes smoothly, the election cycle was difficult to experience. “This past election was challenging for me as a citizen,” she said. “To watch and experience. It was painful.”

“You know, to have a candidate for the presidency speaking in such terms about women, as I said, was not — it was not a normal thing,” she said of Trump leaked controversial conversation with Billy Bush. “So my response, you know, in light of what I was seeing from my female staff, what I was hearing from my daughters, their reaction to it, for me required a different kind of response.”

Even though Obama was disappointed in this election cycle, she reiterated she has no plans to class up the 2020 election with her own bid, but not for the reason you think. “The next family that comes in here, every person in that family — every child, every grandchild — their lives will be turned upside down in a way that no American really understands,” she said explaining she wouldn’t ask her family to go through that again. “And it’s not for us to complain about it, so you don’t hear complaints, but it is a truth, an actuality, that there is a weight to it.”

“People don’t really understand how hard this is,” she continued. “And it’s not something that you cavalierly just sort of ask a family to do again.”

Since she has no plans to run for office, what does Obama plan to do with all her new found free time? Well, go glamping with Oprah of course.
