Say it ain’t so!
“Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam announced that he will not reprise his role as Raleigh Becket in the upcoming film “Pacific Rim: Maelstrom” (also known as “Pacific Rim 2”). In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the 36-year-old actor blamed his absence on scheduling conflicts and Hollywood politics.
“There was one incarnation of this sequel that involved me heavily, but I was unavailable,” Hunnam said. “They have a very definite schedule that they have to film because of the, you know, politics and business surrounding filmmaking. Sometimes non-creative decisions will dictate how something unfolds, which seems [ass-backwards] in [the] fact that we’re making art, or aspiring to make art, but it unfortunately ended up being something we couldn’t remedy.”
Despite Hunnam’s diplomatic answer, it definitely sounds like there’s some frustration here. The actor managed to keep his thoughts to himself and ― ever the gentleman ― say a few positive things about the sequel.
“I’m very excited about it, I’m glad they’re making it, I mean, I think it’s going to be great,” Hunnam said. Um, whatever you say.
“Star Wars” star John Boyega is tied to the second film, and Nerdist predicts that he’ll take over leading-man duties from Hunnam. The movie definitely won’t be the same without Jax, but we can always use a little more Finn in our lives.
“Pacific Rim: Maelstrom” arrives in theaters Feb. 23, 2018.
